Why We Always Shoot the Details Twice
Part of our wedding photography process that surprises a lot of couples: we shoot detail items more than once. It sounds redundant until you see the difference light makes between a 7am hotel room and mid-afternoon.
The First Pass: Before the Day Gets Busy
Early in the day, before anyone's dressed, we'll do a quick pass of the obvious items — rings, invitations, shoes — mostly to make sure nothing gets left behind, lost, or damaged before the day picks up pace. The light at this hour is often soft but limited, and rooms are usually still a little cluttered.
The Second Pass: With Real Light
Later, once there's better natural light and a calmer room, we'll come back to the same items and reshoot them properly — this time with intention around composition and background, not just documentation. The bouquet, for instance, often looks completely different photographed fresh in good afternoon light than it did sitting in a box that morning.
It's a small extra step, but it's the difference between detail photos that just exist in the gallery and ones a couple actually chooses to print.
