Capturing the Perfect Proposal Moment
A proposal only happens once, which makes it one of the least forgiving things we photograph. There's no second take if the light's wrong or the angle's off — everything has to be worked out in advance, well before either person shows up.
Scouting Without Spoiling the Surprise
We usually meet with the person planning the proposal a few days ahead to walk the exact spot — where they'll be standing, which direction they'll be facing, what time the light will be doing at that hour. Good proposal photography tips almost always come down to this kind of preparation rather than anything technical in the moment itself.
We also plan our own position and a backup position, in case something shifts — other people walking through the frame, a change in weather, a slightly different spot than planned. Having a second option ready means we're not scrambling when the moment actually starts.
Being Invisible at the Exact Right Second
For the proposal itself, we're usually shooting from a distance with a longer lens, staying far enough away that neither person clocks us in the moment. We start shooting before the ring even comes out — the reaction in the half-second before someone realizes what's happening is often more honest than anything after.
